Softball Game Preview: Wallkill Panthers vs. Cornwall Central Dragons

The Wallkill Panthers will head out on the road to face off against the Cornwall Central Dragons at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Wallkill has six straight wins, Cornwall Central has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

If Wallkill beats Cornwall Central with seven runs on Wednesday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two games with that exact score. The Panthers blew past Our Lady of Lourdes 7-1 on Tuesday. While the Panthers didn't have the best season last year (they finished 8-10), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Madison Auger spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Gianna Allessandro was excellent, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI and one double. Kasey Garzione also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Meanwhile, Cornwall Central lost 12-3 to Valley Central on Thursday.

Wallkill's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-0. As for Cornwall Central, their loss dropped their record down to 1-3.

Wallkill beat Cornwall Central 3-0 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Panthers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
