Softball Recap: 16 Straight Road Victories for Rising Sun

13 must be Rising Sun's lucky number: they beat North Decatur with that score not once but twice on Saturday. The Shiners beat the Chargers by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 13-1. The Shiners might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matches by six runs or more this season.

Emily Oatman made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs.

In other batting news, Rising Sun got a big performance out of Reese Merica, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs and one RBI. Ryan Works was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.

Rising Sun was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .556. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .360 or higher in four consecutive contests.

Rising Sun pushed their record up to 10-3 with the victory, which was their 16th straight on the road dating back to last season. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games. As for North Decatur, they have been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last 12 games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-10 record this season.

As for North Decatur, they will look to defend their home field on Monday against Eastern Hancock at 5:30 p.m. The Chargers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Royals have averaged an impressive 7.5 runs per game this season.
