Basketball Recap: Tri-Cities Falls Short Against Ranked Woodward Academy

On Monday, Tri-Cities faced Woodward Academy in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Tri-Cities Bulldogs received a blow as they fell 81-63 to the Woodward Academy War Eagles. The Bulldogs' defeat signaled the end of their five-game winning streak.

Tri-Cities' loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Sean Vandorn, who went 9 for 17 on his way to 22 points and five rebounds. Vandorn's evening made it six games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Carby Martin, who posted 15 points and six boards.

Even though they lost, Tri-Cities smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive rebounds in three consecutive matches.

Zachary Foster was his usual excellent self, almost dropping a double-double on 26 points and nine rebounds for Woodward Academy. Those 26 points gave Foster a new career-high. Myles Hayes was another key player, going 7 of 11 en route to 16 points.

Tri-Cities' defeat was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 11-1 and their overall record down to 18-5. As for Woodward Academy, they pushed their record up to 19-4 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home.

Tri-Cities wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, an 88-47 victory against Dunwoody on the 4th. Woodward Academy has also already played their next contest, a 77-62 win against Decatur on the 5th.
