Basketball Recap: Christopher Person's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Hapeville Charter over Lovett

Hapeville Charter lost against Lovett back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Hapeville Charter Hornets came up short against the Lovett Lions, falling 72-46. While losing is never fun, the Hornets can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 321st, while the Lions are ranked 124th).

Hapeville Charter lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Christopher Person, who posted nine points and eight rebounds. Person is on a roll when it comes to boards, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last three games he's played. Jeremiah Jefferson was another key player, putting up ten points and five rebounds.

Even though they lost, Hapeville Charter smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 15 consecutive contests.

Lovett found their leader in sophomore Cameron Cannon, who went 6 of 9 en route to 21 points. Nelson Holland also deserves some recognition as he posted his first assist of the season.

Hapeville Charter's loss was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 6-10. As for Lovett, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season.

Hapeville Charter has already played their next game, a 59-28 defeat against Jefferson on the 20th. As for Lovett, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 67-58 loss against Walker on the 20th.
