League recap: Baker propelled into state Top 25 after victory

Baker was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after defeating Fayetteville-Manlius. The Bees came in at 25 in the state poll after placing at number 37 last week.

Baker extended the longest winning streak in Section 3 Class AA 1 this week by beating the Hornets, 38-36. The victory was the sixth in a row for Carl Sanfillipo's team.

The Bees' offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Josh Demoski threw for 141 and one touchdown and Shay Sargeant had 71 yards receiving. On the ground Tyler Rouse chipped in 272 yards. Eric Anthony helped Baker's passing attack out by catching three balls for 70 yards.

Proctor's Jordan Treen and Chris Simmons have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Treen has thrown for 1627 yards this season, while Simmons, a 6-foot-3 receiver, has 27 catches for 573 yards. Baker's Rouse leads the league in rushing yards with 2766.

The Bees and Fayetteville-Manlius played the most hotly contested game in the league this week, with the Bees eventually emerging with a 38-36 victory. Rouse in the win.
