Softball Recap: Washington Academy Has No Trouble Against Calais

After only one run in their last match, Washington Academy made sure to put some runs up on the board against Calais on Wednesday. The Raiders were the clear victors by a 16-0 margin over the Blue Devils. That looming 16-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Raiders yet this season.

Bella Cirone was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and two RBI.

In other batting news, Lilyana Balyint was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one double. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Lily Hennessey, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs.

Washington Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .586. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Calais only posted an OBP of .111.

Washington Academy's record is now 10-5. As for Calais, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-12 record this season.

Washington Academy will challenge Orono on Thursday. Calais does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
