Zack Poff takes a look at the Top 25 teams in action this week.

It's finally high school football season.

One team from the Xcellent 25 National High School Football Rankings presented by the Army National Guard played this past week and No. 12 St. Louis (Honolulu) looked like the back-to-back state champs beating Wai'anae (Hawaii) 69-6 in its season opener. Jayden de Laura made his first career start for the Crusaders and the 2020 quarterback was phenomenal. He completed 9-of-12 passes for 239 yards and three touchdowns, and added another score on the ground while resting the whole second half.

Up next for the Hawaii power is No. 24 Narbonne (Harbor City, Calif.) at Honolulu's Aloha Stadium.

Nine other ranked teams begin the 2018 campaign this week, including No. 1 St. John Bosco (Bellflower, Calif.), which opens up its brand new 7.2 million dollar stadium against Timpview (Provo, Utah), and No. 2 Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.) putting its 15-game winning streak on the line against Bishop Amat (La Puente, Calif.).

St. Louis vs. Narbonne is one of three Top 25 matchups on Friday.

No. 10 Chandler (Ariz.) travels to Southern California to meet No. 17 Centennial (Corona, Calif.) and No. 18 De La Salle (Concord, Calif.) hosts No. 19 Folsom (Calif.) in a huge Northern California showdown. The Spartans own a 290-game unbeaten streak against Northern California opponents and the winner will be in great shape to represent NorCal in the CIF Open Division state championship game in December.

The Corky Kell Classic in Georgia features two Top 25 teams as No. 25 Archer (Lawrenceville, Ga.) takes on Milton (Ga.) on Friday and No. 15 Marietta (Ga.) faces the back-to-back 5A state champs Rome (Ga.) on Thursday.

No. 16 Bingham (South Jordan, Utah), the back-to-back state champs, take on Puka Nacua and Orem (Utah), the defending 4A state champs on Thursday.
