Basketball Recap: Calvert Hall Cardinals vs. John Carroll Patriots
Even though the Calvert Hall Cardinals have not done well against the John Carroll Patriots recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. Calvert Hall came out on top against the Patriots by a score of 61-53. Winning may never get old, but Calvert Hall sure is getting used to it with their fifth in a row.
Brendan Johnson was his usual excellent self, scoring 41 points along with seven rebounds. That makes it seven consecutive games in which he has scored at least a third of Calvert Hall's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Asaiah Hamond, who scored two points along with nine rebounds.
Calvert Hall has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a massive bump to their 15-15 record this season. As for John Carroll, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 9-10.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Calvert Hall and the Panthers will face off at 7:00 p.m. on February 7th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. St. Frances Academy presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Cardinals in Maryland (the Panthers are ranked ninth, while the Cardinals are ranked 54th). As for John Carroll, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Cougars at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
