Stat Stars: Big week for Amory, Miss.

By Kevin Askeland Oct 27, 2010, 8:53am

Panther quarterback, receiver among national stat stars, and alumnus Mitch Moreland makes the World Series.

Friday nights haven't been too exciting for the Amory Panthers this year as they have struggled through a losing season. However it would be hard to top the excitement the school experienced last Friday night.

Besides defeating Houston (Miss.) 55-48 in a thriller for their third win of the season, the Panthers also had two of the top statistical performers in the country in quarterback Forest Williams and receiver Dario Robinson. Williams threw for 582 yards on the night while Robinson caught seven of Williams' passes for 236 yards and a touchdown.

The night ended with a Texas Rangers win over the New York Yankees in the American League Championship Series. That series win meant that Amory native Mitch Moreland - a rookie who made his Major League debut just two months ago - was headed to the World Series. Moreland is the only pro baseball player from Amory, a town of about 7,000 along the Alabama border south of Tupelo, to reach the Major Leagues, let alone a World Series.

Here is a look at the rest of this week's top national football stat stars, as reported to MaxPreps by team coaches.
