Chenango Valley is a perfect 10-0 against Seton Catholic Central since May of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Warriors will welcome the Saints at 5:00 p.m. Chenango Valley is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.4 runs per game this season.
Chenango Valley will bounce into Monday's match after beating Johnson City, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. The Warriors came out on top against the Wildcats by a score of 5-2 on Friday.
Natalie Tyler spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on five hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Chenango Valley's victory was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Amelia Paske, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.
Owego Free Academy hit Seton Catholic Central with a four-run sixth inning two weeks ago, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Saints took an 8-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of the River Hawks. The Saints have struggled against the River Hawks recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost meeting.
Olivia Nazarenus put in work while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and five unearned) runs off eight hits. Nazarenus was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.
In other batting news, Shannon Mentz was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Olivia Delviscio, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one RBI.
Seton Catholic Central's loss dropped their record down to 1-3. As for Chenango Valley, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
Everything went Chenango Valley's way against Seton Catholic Central in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Chenango Valley made off with a 14-2 win. Will the Warriors repeat their success, or do the Saints have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
