Madelyn Hopper spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on two hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in 16 consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Kelsie Bumb was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one double.
Meanwhile, Pettisville made easy work of Stryker on Monday and carried off a 27-2 victory. The result was nothing new for the Blackbirds, who have now won eight games by nine runs or more so far this season.
Macy Hoylman made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Hoylman was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs and one RBI.
In other batting news, Olivia Miller was a standout: she got on base in all six of her plate appearances with five runs and two RBI. Those five runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Naomi Richer, who went 3-for-4 with four runs, five RBI, and one double.
Pettisville kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. They are a perfect 10-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Pettisville has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.3 runs over those games. As for Montpelier, they pushed their record up to 13-5 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road.
Tuesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Montpelier hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .365. However, it's not like Pettisville struggles in that department as they've averaged .380. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Montpelier's way against Pettisville when the teams last played back in April, as Montpelier made off with a 19-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Locomotives since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
