Basketball Recap: Virginia Academy's Luck Changes for the Better on Friday

Virginia Academy came into Friday's contest having lost three straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They took down the Virginia Episcopal School Bishops 86-72 on Friday. For the Patriots , this counts as revenge for the 55-51 win the Bishops walked away with the last time they faced one another back in December of 2023.

Matthew McLaurin was his usual excellent self, putting up 34 points. Rondel Jones Jr. was another key player, posting 17 points.

Despite the loss, Virginia Episcopal School still got an impressive performance from Kaloyan Kolev, who posted 30 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. With that strong performance, Kolev is now averaging an impressive 17.3 points per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Austin Ebreneyin, who put up ten points and three steals.

Virginia Academy now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Virginia Episcopal School, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-4 record this season.

Virginia Academy didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, an 89-68 victory against Hargrave Military Academy on the 7th. As for Virginia Episcopal School, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, an 89-81 win against Nansemond-Suffolk Academy on the 7th.
