Basketball Recap: Hillcrest Takes a Loss

If Hillcrest was feeling good fresh off their 57-23 takedown of Molina last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Hillcrest Panthers were dealt a 73-32 loss at the hands of the White Longhorns on Tuesday. The Panthers were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 39-14.

Despite the defeat, Hillcrest saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Clauriannys Berrios posted 12 points in addition to eight rebounds and three steals. Berrios has been hot, having posted three or more steals the last six times she's played.

Dany Diaz was her usual excellent self, putting up 38 points along with eight steals and six boards for White. That makes it five consecutive games in which Diaz has scored at least a third of White's points. Another player making a difference was Ida Gueye, who had 16 points and three steals.

With the loss, Hillcrest broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 11-11. As for White, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 11-9.

Hillcrest wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 53-11 victory against Adamson on the 17th. As for White, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 50-28 win against South Oak Cliff on the 17th.
