Basketball Recap: Lake of the Woods Takes a Loss

Lake of the Woods was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They were beaten by the Kelliher/Northome Mustangs 101-22. While losing is never fun, the Bears can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Minnesota basketball rankings (they are ranked 385th, while the Mustangs are ranked 116th).

Kelliher/Northome's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Kate Thayer, who dropped a triple-double on 31 points, ten rebounds, and 11 steals. The matchup was Thayer's 21st in a row with at least ten points. Kylee Binkley was another key player, going 12 for 17 en route to 28 points in addition to seven steals and five assists.

Lake of the Woods' defeat dropped their record down to 2-13. As for Kelliher/Northome, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 15-3.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lake of the Woods and Littlefork-Big Falls will face off at 7:15 p.m. on Friday without much rest having both just played. As for Kelliher/Northome, they will look to defend their home court on Monday against Red Lake at 5:45 p.m.
