Baseball Recap: Chester Has No Trouble Against Penn Wood

Chester had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 11-run drubbing they dealt Penn Wood on Thursday. The Clippers put the hurt on the Patriots with a sharp 16-5 win. The victory continues a trend for the Clippers in their matchups with the Patriots: they've now won six in a row.

Juan Martinez made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Neaven Diaz, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with four stolen bases, two runs, and one double. That double was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Jacoby Roman, who went 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI.

Chester always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .629. They are 4-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Chester's record is now 5-8. As for Penn Wood, they dropped their record down to 1-12 with the defeat, which was their 13th straight on the road dating back to last season.

Chester does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Penn Wood, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Interboro at 3:30 p.m.
