Basketball Recap: Hillsboro Takes a Loss

Hillsboro lost against South Iron back in December of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Hillsboro Hawks were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 55-54 to the South Iron Panthers. While losing is never fun, the Hawks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Missouri basketball rankings (they are ranked 204th, while the Panthers are ranked 99th).

Hillsboro's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Gunner Sutton, who posted 13 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. Gregory Robinson was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on nine points and 13 rebounds.

Even though they lost, Hillsboro smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in four consecutive matches.

Hillsboro's defeat dropped their record down to 6-4. As for South Iron, their victory bumped their record up to 10-2.

When Hillsboro and South Iron next hit the court, they'll be up against teams who recently just can't seem to lose. Hillsboro will try to stop St. Francis Borgia's five-game winning streak when the meet at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hillsboro is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 57.2 points per game this season. Meanwhile, South Iron will try to stop Bunker's nine-game winning streak when the meet at 8:00 p.m. on January 7th.
