Basketball Game Preview: Boyd County Spartans vs. Burke Cougars

The Boyd County Spartans will head out on the road to square off against the Burke Cougars at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both have had a bumpy ride up to this point with three consecutive losses for Boyd County and 14 for Burke dating back to last season.

Last Saturday, Boyd County didn't have quite enough to beat Elkhorn Valley and fell 49-47.

Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Hudson Hoffman, who went 7 of 17 en route to 18 points. He is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last nine games he's played. Charlie Adams was another key player, putting up 13 points.

Meanwhile, Burke took a blow against Wagner on Friday, falling 59-15. The game marked the Cougars' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

Boyd County's loss dropped their record down to 7-7. As for Burke, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-11.

Boyd County strolled past Burke in their previous matchup back in January of 2024 by a score of 57-40. The rematch might be a little tougher for Boyd County since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
