Basketball Recap: Burton Takes a Loss

Burton was the 48-40 winner over Iola when they last played one another back in February of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Burton Panthers received a blow on Tuesday as they fell 67-52 to the Iola Bulldogs. The Panthers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Leading Iola to victory were Brody Vaughn and Tyler EllioTT. Vaughn went 7 of 12 en route to 19 points and five steals, while Elliott went 7 of 13 on his way to 22 points and three steals. Vaughn is becoming a predictor of Iola's success: when he posts at least three steals the team is 4-2 (and 2-5 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Grant Goodney, who posted nine points and eight rebounds.

Burton's defeat dropped their record down to 9-6. As for Iola, their victory bumped their record up to 6-7.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. A feisty cat fight will be fought when the Burton Panthers duke it out with the Bremond Tigers at 2:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Iola, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Snook at 2:30 p.m. One thing working in Iola's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last four contests.
