Basketball Preview: Churchill Bulldogs vs. Whitman Vikings

Churchill has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will square off against the Whitman Vikings at 7:15 p.m. on Monday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the pair posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Last Friday, Churchill came up short against the Patriots and fell 64-55.

Meanwhile, Whitman had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.8 points), and they went ahead and made it six on Friday. They strolled past Clarksburg with points to spare, taking the game 67-51. Given Whitman's advantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 51st, while the Coyotes are ranked 247th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Whitman's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Thomas Farrell, who scored 18 points, and Hayden Walsh, who went 6 for 11 from beyond the arc en route to 20 points and 2 assists. Another player making a difference was Titian DeRosa, who scored eight points along with five assists and four steals.

Churchill now has a losing record at 7-8. As for Whitman, their victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-3.

Churchill couldn't quite finish off the Vikings in their previous matchup back in December of 2023 and fell 59-56. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Whitman's Sean Curran, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 19 rebounds. Now that Churchill knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
