Basketball Recap: Burney's Luck Changes for the Better on Saturday

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Chester, Burney was happy to have turned things around on Saturday. They blew past the Herlong Vikings 64-40. The high-flying offensive performance was a huge turnaround for the Raiders considering their 21-point performance the game before.

Burney's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was James Fields, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 18 boards. Germaine Maldonado was another key player, going 8 of 15 on his way to 19 points and four steals.

Burney was working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Burney moved to 2-6 with that win, which also ended their six-game losing streak. As for Herlong, they are on a 23-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-8.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Burney will take on Plumas Charter in a tournament on Thursday. Herlong and Loyalton will compete for holiday cheer at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
