Toppenish is 0-10 against East Valley since April of 2017 but things could change on Tuesday. The Wildcats are taking a road trip to challenge the Red Devils at 4:30 p.m. Toppenish has given up an average of 11.2 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Toppenish fell victim to Selah and their airtight pitching crew on Saturday. They came up short against the Vikings, falling 22-0.
Meanwhile, East Valley entered their tilt with Quincy on Saturday with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. They never let the Jackrabbits get on the board and left with a 13-0 victory. The Red Devils might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five contests by six runs or more this season.
Joey Bivins made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
In other pitching news, Skyler Lingle looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched.
Back at the plate, Brandon Stone was a standout: he got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That home run marked the first that he has launched this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jake Jansen, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
East Valley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .594. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
East Valley's record is now 6-1. As for Toppenish, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-6.
Toppenish suffered a grim 15-0 defeat to East Valley in their previous matchup on Tuesday. Can the Wildcats avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
