Preview: Hugo Buffaloes vs. KIPP Tulsa University Prep Bulldogs
Hugo has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will face off against the KIPP Tulsa University Prep Bulldogs at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.
Last Saturday, things could have been worse for Hugo, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 50-33 loss to Kingston. While losing is never fun, Hugo can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Oklahoma basketball rankings (they are ranked 240th, while Kingston is ranked 104th).
Meanwhile, KIPP Tulsa University Prep's recent rough patch got a bit rougher last Friday after their eighth straight loss. They were beaten by Idabel 88-41. KIPP Tulsa University Prep was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 50-22.
Hugo has traveled a rocky road recently having lost eight of their last nine matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-13 record this season. As for KIPP Tulsa University Prep, they dropped their record down to 4-20 with that loss, which was their third straight at home.
Everything went Hugo's way against KIPP Tulsa University Prep when the teams last played back in December of 2023 as Hugo made off with a 65-43 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Hugo since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
