Basketball Recap: Marlboro County Takes a Loss

Marlboro County has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They came up short against the South Florence Bruins on Sunday, falling 64-41. The Bulldogs were probably out for revenge after losing 50-46 to them when the teams met back in December of 2022, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Jarius Davis was his usual excellent self, going 7 for 12 on his way to 18 points and six rebounds for South Florence. Davis' evening made it six games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Lennix Valerie, who posted eight points.

Marlboro County's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 8-3. As for South Florence, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a massive bump to their 6-5 record this season.

Marlboro County will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Aynor at 7:30 p.m. on January 10th. As for South Florence, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 57-50 victory against Greenbrier on the 4th.
