Basketball Recap: Waupaca Gets Big Victory over Higher-Ranked Oconto Falls

Waupaca won the last time they faced Oconto Falls and things went their way on Friday too. The Waupaca Comets managed a 54-49 win over the Oconto Falls Panthers. The victory was all the more spectacular given the Comets' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Wisconsin basketball rankings (they are ranked 248th, while the Panthers are ranked 73rd).

Oconto Falls lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Jameson Beaman, who almost dropped a double-double on ten points and nine boards. What's more, Beaman also racked up three steals, the most he's had since back in December of 2023. Another player making a difference was Jj Pytleski, who posted ten points and five rebounds.

The win made it two in a row for Waupaca and bumps their season record up to 3-5. As for Oconto Falls, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-3.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Waupaca will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Winneconne at 7:00 p.m. on December 30th. Winneconne knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past seven contests -- so hopefully Waupaca likes a good challenge. As for Oconto Falls, they will venture away from home to square off against Oconto at 2:00 p.m. on December 28th.
