Softball Recap: Plainfield North Takes a Loss

Plainfield North dropped their record down to 9-15 on Monday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins at home. They lost 10-0 to the Oswego Panthers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Panthers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 10-0 back in April.

As for Oswego, their victory was their 18th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 26-1. The result was nothing new for the Panthers, who have now won 19 contests by six runs or more so far this season.

For Oswego's part, Aubriella Garza was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over seven innings pitched. Garza has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 4-for-5 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kennedy Gengler, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Rikka Ludvigson, who went 3-for-5 with one run and one double.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Plainfield North will square off against Oswego East at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Wolves have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.11 runs per game on average), something the Tigers will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Oswego, they will challenge Carmel at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Panthers will need to watch out since the Corsairs have now posted at least ten runs in their last three matchups.
