Recap: Epiphany Falcons vs. Wayne Country Day Chargers
The Epiphany Falcons's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their sixth straight loss. They took a serious blow against Wayne Country Day, falling 61-28. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Epiphany in their matchups with Wayne Country Day: they've now lost five in a row.
Despite the loss, Epiphany still got an impressive performance from Alanna Moye, who scored 23 points. That was a full 82.1% of Epiphany's points, marking the tenth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Wayne Country Day's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jada Vanderhorst, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and ten rebounds. Vanderhorst is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as she's now posted two or more in the last three games she's played. Kyrah Davis was another key contributor, scoring 23 points along with five assists and two steals.
Epiphany has not been sharp recently, as they've lost nine of their last 11 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-12 record this season. As for Wayne Country Day, they have been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 13 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season.
Epiphany and Wayne Christian will face off at 5:30 p.m. on January 22nd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. The timing is sure in Wayne Christian's favor as the team sits on nine straight wins at home while Epiphany has been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road. Wayne Country Day will take on Greenfield at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Greenfield will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 338th, while Wayne Country Day is ranked 141st).
