Softball Recap: Mansfield Legacy Takes Down Midland in a Playoff Battle

Mansfield Legacy had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Midland Bulldogs a 10-0 shutout on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Broncos, who have now won 19 matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Natalie Moreaux made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out nine over five innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in 15 consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

In other batting news, Hope Gaudio was a standout: she went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Ryleigh Stinson, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

Mansfield Legacy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Midland only posted a batting average of .118.

Mansfield Legacy is on a roll lately: they've won 17 of their last 18 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 27-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.1 runs on average over those games. As for Midland, their loss dropped their record down to 29-7.

Mansfield Legacy will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Bulldogs: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 2:00 p.m. on Friday.
