Basketball Recap: Maria Sabas and Sienna Gomez Secure Win for Gunnison

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Pagosa Springs, Gunnison was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. They came out on top against the Buena Vista Demons by a score of 35-22. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Cowboys also won the last time the pair played back in December of 2023.

Leading Gunnison to victory were Sienna Gomez and Maria Sabas. Gomez posted ten points, while Sabas scored 13 points. The dominant performance gave Sabas a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Kylee McDougal, who put up two points and seven rebounds.

Gunnison now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Buena Vista, they are on a four-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-3.

Gunnison didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 55-44 win against North Fork on the 13th. Buena Vista and La Junta will compete for holiday cheer at 3:00 p.m. on December 20th.
