Volleyball Recap: Olympia Spartans vs. Heyworth Hornets
Olympia was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were a single set away from ending the streak, but they lost a 2-1 heartbreaker at the hands of the Heyworth Hornets. The Spartans were not able to make up for their loss to the Hornets from their previous meeting back in September of 2024.
Brooklyn Komnick paced Olympia's offense, picking up five kills. Komnick got some help from Kinley Steinkamp and her 11 assists. Finally, Komnick was also a dominant defender, finishing with a team-high four blocks.
Heyworth's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Lyla Tate led the charge by getting 13 kills and 11 digs. Tate has been hot for a while, having posted five or more kills the last 26 times she's played. Another player making a difference was Sidney Ditchen, who had 14 assists and six aces.
Olympia's defeat dropped their record down to 5-8. As for Heyworth, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-2 record this season.
Olympia will be playing in front of their home fans against Prairie Central at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Heyworth, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 2-0 victory against El Paso-Gridley on the 13th.
