Basketball Game Preview: Cook Hornets vs. Appling County Pirates

The Cook Hornets will face off against the Appling County Pirates at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.

Cook is headed into the game out to prove that what happened against Appling County on Saturday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Cook had to suffer through a 66-34 loss at the hands of Appling County. The contest marked the Hornets' lowest-scoring match so far this season.

Cook better focus on containing Makayla Williams and Keniyah White as the pair were huge in Appling County's win. Williams almost dropped a triple-double on 17 points, ten boards, and nine blocks, while White posted 21 points along with five rebounds and four steals. White's evening made it seven games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Perri Mitchell, who earned six points and ten rebounds.

Appling County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 22 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 18 offensive boards in four consecutive games.

Appling County pushed their record up to 11-7 with the victory, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.4 points per game. As for Cook, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-10 record this season.
