Baseball Recap: Sunrise Mountain Comes Up Short

Sunrise Mountain was the 3-1 winner over O'Connor when they last played one another back in April of 2016, but their luck changed this time around. The Sunrise Mountain Mustangs fell 4-1 to the O'Connor Eagles on Saturday. The game marked the Mustangs' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

Gunnar Thomas was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

At the plate, Sunrise Mountain saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Chase Heid, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base. That stolen base was Heid's first of the season.

Sunrise Mountain's defeat dropped their record down to 5-4. As for O'Connor, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 5-4.

Sunrise Mountain has already played their next contest, a 15-2 win against Santa Fe South on the 15th. As for O'Connor, they will challenge Damonte Ranch at 10:00 a.m. on Monday.
