Preview: Zachary Broncos vs. Destrehan Wildcats
Zachary has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will face off against the Destrehan Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Zachary had already proven themselves in the regular season, and didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They put the hurt on Salmen with a sharp 49-28 win on Friday.
Zachary can attribute much of their success to Kameron Thomas, who rushed for 147 yards and a touchdown on only 15 carries. Thomas has been hot recently, having posted 100 or more rushing yards the last five times he's played. Tyson George also deserves a shout-out for his two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Destrehan put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. Everything went their way against Belle Chasse as Destrehan made off with a 31-10 victory. Given Destrehan's advantage in MaxPreps' Louisiana football rankings (they are ranked 17th, while Belle Chasse is ranked 63rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Zachary has yet to lose a matchup at home this season, leaving them with a 10-1 record. As for Destrehan, their win bumped their record up to 11-0.
Everything went Zachary's way against Destrehan in their previous meeting back in December of 2021 as Zachary made off with a 34-13 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Zachary since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
