Caldwell Academy couldn't beat Faith Christian on Friday even though they stacked four runs on them in the fifth inning. Caldwell Academy fell just short of Faith Christian by a score of 5-4.
Spencer McBurney was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Alex Benson was another key player, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one run.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Westchester Country Day, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Greensboro Day School 8-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Wildcats have posted since March 21, 2024.
Jesse Covington was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out eight batters over 3.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two doubles, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Covington wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Kaline Burr-Ellis, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Westchester Country Day is undefeated when Burr-Ellis posts two or more runs, but 1-11 otherwise.
Westchester Country Day's win bumped their record up to 5-11. As for Caldwell Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 9-13.
Caldwell Academy might still be hurting after the 20-0 defeat they got from Westchester Country Day when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Can the Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
