Basketball Recap: Caleb Short Key Part of a Team Effort in Red Devils Win

Verbena won against Autaugaville last Monday with 57 points and they decided to stick to that point total again on Tuesday. The Verbena Red Devils secured a 57-53 W over the Fayetteville Wolves. This was a revenge game for the Red Devils: when they faced off against the Wolves back in December of 2024, they had to take a 68-64 defeat.

Verbena's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Caleb Short, who went 5 for 9 on his way to 13 points and six rebounds. Short is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last ten games he's played. Kamari Ceasar was another key player, putting up 11 points in addition to eight rebounds and three steals.

Fayetteville's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was JB Buttram, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 11 boards. Buttram is trending in the right direction considering he's improved his point production for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Carter Goins, who posted six points and three steals.

The win made it two in a row for Verbena and bumps their season record up to 4-8. As for Fayetteville, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-9.

Verbena won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Notasulga at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Verbena is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51 points per game this season. As for Fayetteville, they also won't have to wait long for more action: they'll take on Autaugaville at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
