Basketball Recap: Caleb Harbert's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Crossroads Charter Academy over Marion

Crossroads Charter Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their ninth straight defeat. They took a 37-28 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Marion Eagles. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Michigan basketball rankings (they are ranked 753rd, while the Eagles are ranked 334th).

Crossroads Charter Academy's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Caleb Harbert, who went 5-for-9 to rack up 11 points and six rebounds. The dominant performance also gave Harbert a new career-high in field goal percentage (56%). Another player making a difference was Pierce Ouellette, who posted seven points along with six assists and five steals.

Even though they lost, Crossroads Charter Academy was working as a unit and finished the game with ten assists. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.1 assists per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matches they've averaged 9.

Crossroads Charter Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 1-18. As for Marion, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 17-6.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Crossroads Charter Academy will host Bear Lake at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Bear Lake knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past four contests -- so hopefully Crossroads Charter Academy likes a good challenge. As for Marion, they will face off against Meridian at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The timing is sure in Marion's favor as the team sits on 18 straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while Meridian has been banged up by four consecutive losses on the road.
