Basketball Recap: Gospel Light Christian Beats Liberty Preparatory Christian Academy for Their Fourth Straight Win

It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Gospel Light Christian ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Liberty Preparatory Christian Academy Patriots 50-47. This was payback for Gospel Light Christian, who suffered a 41-39 loss the last time these two teams met.

Gospel Light Christian got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Ali Phillips out in front who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 15 rebounds. Those 16 points gave Phillips a new career-high. Maggie Jo Church was another key player, dropping a double-double on ten points and 12 rebounds.

Despite the loss, Liberty Preparatory Christian Academy still got an impressive performance from Elizabeth Talbott, who went 5 of 8 on her way to 16 points along with eight steals and six boards. Talbott is becoming a predictor of Liberty Preparatory Christian Academy's success: when she posts at least five steals the team is 2-1 (and 1-2 when she doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Leia Garrett, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 12 rebounds.

The win (which was Gospel Light Christian's fourth in a row) raised their record to 7-1. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.0 points per game. As for Liberty Preparatory Christian Academy, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-3.

Gospel Light Christian will host Vandalia Christian at 6:30 a.m. on Friday. As for Liberty Preparatory Christian Academy, they will venture away from home to square off against Christ the King at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
