Softball Recap: Pekin's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

Pekin's game on Saturday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Saturday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Danville Vikings a 13-0 shutout. The Dragons might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matches by 11 runs or more this season.

Zoe Lindahl was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Jaeleigh Decker was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and four RBI. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Bella Benassi, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Pekin always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .586. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Pekin moved to 8-6 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak. As for Danville, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-8 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Pekin will venture away from home to square off against East Peoria at 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Danville, they will face off against Centennial at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Vikings are facing the Chargers at the right time seeing as the Chargers are stuck on a three-game losing streak.
