Grace is a perfect 10-0 against Bishop Diego since May of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Lancers will be playing in front of their home fans against the Cardinals at 3:30 p.m. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
While Grace's victory against Ventura wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Lancers skirted past the Cougars 5-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Lancers have posted since May 7, 2024.
Rosy Salazar spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on six hits and racked up six Ks.
On the hitting side, Ava Depew was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Lexi Bower also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Meanwhile, Bishop Diego got their first taste of in-conference action on Tuesday and they started things off strong. They blew past Foothill Tech 13-2. Considering the Cardinals have won five contests by more than ten runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Tara Gregson was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Gregson was also big at the plate, scoring a run while getting on base in two of her four plate appearances.
In other batting news, Bishop Diego got a massive performance out of Penny Carroll, who scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-3. Sarah Fellers was another key player, scoring three runs while going 2-for-3.
Grace pushed their record up to 8-3 with the victory, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games. As for Bishop Diego, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-5.
Grace took their win against Bishop Diego in their previous meeting back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 12-2 score. Will the Lancers repeat their success, or do the Cardinals have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
