Baseball Recap: West Carroll Takes a Loss

West Carroll extended their losing streak to 13 on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 1-13 in the process. They lost 17-1 to the Pearl City Wolves. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Thunder of the 13-2 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.

As for Pearl City, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 9-7. Considering they have won seven matchups by more than six runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

For Pearl City's part, Myles Freedlund made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single hit and allowed only one earned run while striking out seven over four innings pitched. Those seven strikeouts gave Freedlund a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. He has become a key player for Pearl City: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 5-7 otherwise.

In other batting news, Pearl City let Jacob Runkle and Brycen Voegeli run wild. Runkle went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Voegeli got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Those two hits gave Runkle a new career-high. Clayton Downs was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Coincidentally, West Carroll and Pearl City will both be playing Milledgeville the next time they take the field. The Thunder will host the Missiles at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, while the Wolves will play them later in the day, at 3:00 p.m.
