Basketball Recap: Tampa Prep Takes a Loss

Tampa Prep fought the good fight in their overtime match against Berkeley Prep on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 52-51 to the Berkeley Prep Buccaneers. The Terrapins have struggled against the Buccaneers recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive lost matchup.

Despite the loss, Tampa Prep had strong showings from Christian Fuller, who posted 20 points and three steals, and J'London Bivens, who had eight points in addition to eight assists and five rebounds. The contest was Fuller's third in a row with at least ten points. Myheir Session was another key player, putting up ten points and six boards.

Even though they lost, Tampa Prep smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in 17 consecutive games.

Tampa Prep's defeat dropped their record down to 21-3. As for Berkeley Prep, their victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-10.

Tampa Prep will be taking part in a tournament against Discovery at 9:00 p.m. on Saturday. Discovery knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past 14 matches -- so hopefully Tampa Prep likes a good challenge. Berkeley Prep has already played their next contest (against Lakewood), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
