Basketball Recap: Giltner Comes Up Short

Giltner was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their 19th straight loss. They had to suffer through a 56-22 loss at the hands of the Silver Lake Mustangs. While losing is never fun, the Hornets can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 277th, while the Mustangs are ranked 82nd).

Despite the loss, Giltner still got an impressive performance from Avery Reeson, who posted 14 points and three steals. Reeson is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last three games she's played.

Silver Lake was led to victory by Sophie Schmidt and Emma Schmidt. Sophie went 5-for-11 to rack up 14 points along with seven assists and three steals, while Emma went 5-for-11 on her way to 16 points. Emma continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Katy Soucek, who earned eight points and three steals.

Giltner's record now sits at 1-19. As for Silver Lake, they have been performing well recently as they've won 11 of their last 13 games, which provided a nice bump to their 17-4 record this season.

Giltner wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 47-39 defeat against Hampton on the 14th. As for Silver Lake, they have also already played their next contest, a 51-28 win against Meridian on the 14th.
