Game recap: Waverly high school football team's defense the difference against Dryden

The defense contributed on the scoring end for Waverly (N.Y.) on Saturday, totaling 12 points as the Wolverines bested Dryden (N.Y.) 70-7.

After taking the lead on a touchdown run in the first quarter, the Wolverines led 55-7 at the half.

Waverly expanded its lead to 56 points entering the fourth quarter. WHS scored two times in the third, including once on a touchdown run.

With the win the Wolverines extended their winning streak to seven games. Waverly defeated the Senecas 35-6 last week.



WHS's most effective player was Mark Connor . The senior ran for one touchdown.

The Lions' lone touchdown came on a pass in the second quarter.

The Wolverines came into the game allowing 6.8 points per game. The seven points that Dryden ended with were right around its average of 5.8 coming into the game.

When the two teams played each other last season, Waverly came away with a 55-0 victory.

The loss comes after Dryden defeated Candor 42-0 last week.

Waverly (7-0) goes up against Charles O. Dickerson in a Section 4 C Division VI game matchup next week, while Dryden (2-5) locks horns with Edison also in a Section 4 C Division VI game.
