Preview: Santa Fe Indians vs. Texas City Stingarees

The Santa Fe Indians will be playing at home against the Texas City Stingarees at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Last Tuesday, Santa Fe came up short against Friendswood and fell 57-45. Santa Fe has struggled against Friendswood recently, as their matchup on Tuesday was their third consecutive lost matchup.

Santa Fe's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Hannah Doerre, who scored 15 points along with nine rebounds, and Gracie Rambin who scored 15 points. That's the first time this season that Rambin scored 15 or more points.

Meanwhile, Texas City's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fifth straight loss. They took a 45-34 hit to the loss column at the hands of Angleton.

Texas City's defeat came about despite a quality game from Kalynn Smith, who scored 18 points along with six rebounds and three steals. Sa'naii May was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with eight rebounds and four steals.

Santa Fe has not been sharp recently, as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 13-10 record this season. As for Texas City, their loss was their third straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 3-14.

Tuesday's game is shaping up to be a scrappy match: Santa Fe have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 34.5 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Texas City, though, as they've been averaging only 26.8 rebounds per game. Given Santa Fe's sizeable advantage in that area, Texas City will need to find a way to close that gap.

Everything came up roses for Santa Fe against Texas City when the teams last played back in December of 2023 as the team secured a 77-40 win. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Smith, who scored 16 points along with nine rebounds and two steals. Now that she's got a second chance to win this matchup, will Santa Fe still be able to contain him? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
