Softball Recap: Aztec Wins Going Away Against West Mesa

Aztec had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the six-run drubbing they dealt West Mesa on Thursday. Aztec was the clear victor by an 8-2 margin over West Mesa. Eight seems to be a good number for the Tigers as the squad scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Kamora Henry spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on three hits and racked up ten Ks. Those ten strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Alexyn Candelaria, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in May of 2024. Madeline Kaiser was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-2.

Aztec's record now sits at 4-9. As for West Mesa, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-8.

Looking ahead, Aztec will take on Rio Rancho in a tournament on Friday. As for West Mesa, they will take on Albuquerque at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The match will give West Mesa their first taste of in-conference action this season.
