Game recap: Butler High School Football Team defeats Independence

MATTHEWS, N.C. - Butler (Matthews, N.C.) snapped Independence (Charlotte, N.C.)'s 7-game winning streak, with a 33-14 victory on Saturday.

After taking the lead on a Josh Glisson touchdown run in the second quarter, the Bulldogs led 14-0 at the half.

Butler expanded its lead to 20 points entering the fourth quarter. BHS's lone score in the quarter came on a touchdown run by Riley Ferguson.

With the win the Matthews school extended its winning streak to 10 games. The Bulldogs defeated the Sabres 58-0 last week.

Glisson played well for Butler in the victory. The senior running back ran for three touchdowns.

The Patriots' Dequan Barnes played well. The senior wide receiver caught one touchdown. He has now scored 13 touchdowns on the season.



BHS went into the matchup giving up only 5.0 points per game. Independence's 14 points were well below its season average of 38.9 per game.

When the two teams played each other last season, the Bulldogs came away with a 38-26 victory.

The loss comes after Independence defeated Myers Park 39-21 last week.
