Volleyball Recap: Ellie Gilliland and Reagan Smith Secure Win for Lawrence County

Lawrence County lost to Pelham back in August of 2024, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Saturday. The Red Devils won by a set and slipped past the Panthers 2-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Red Devils have posted since October 4th.

Leading Lawrence County to victory were Reagan Smith and Ellie Gilliland. Smith had 11 digs and two aces, while Gilliland had four digs and one assist. That's the most aces Smith has posted over her last 17 contests.

Kayla Girardin and Aubrie Smith certainly did their best on Saturday to avoid the loss. Girardin had eight digs and two assists, while Aubrie had 12 kills and eight digs. Smith is on a roll when it comes to kills, as she's now had five or more in each of the last four games she's played.

With the win, Lawrence County broke their four-match losing streak and moved their record to 24-28. As for Pelham, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 14-27 record this season.

Lawrence County wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 2-0 defeat against Baldwin County on the 11th. As for Pelham, they will square off against Chelsea at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
