Baseball Recap: Freeburg Snaps Five-Game Streak of Wins at Home

Saturday just wasn't the day for Freeburg's offense. They fell just short of the Alton Redbirds by a score of 2-0 on Saturday. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since April 9, 2022, but that streak is no more.

Freeburg got a good showing from Alex Fritz, who pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.

Freeburg's loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 5-4. As for Alton, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 11-4.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Freeburg will venture away from home to face off against Belleville East at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Alton, they will square off against O'Fallon at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Redbirds 3.4, the Panthers 3.5) so any runs scored will be well earned.
