For the first time this season, Sacred Heart will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They will be playing in front of their home fans against the East Marion Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Sacred Heart knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 31 points or more in their past four matchups -- so hopefully East Marion likes a good challenge.
On Friday, Sacred Heart got the win against Wilkinson County by a conclusive 37-14. The result was nothing new for the Crusaders, who have now won four contests by 23 points or more so far this season.
Luke Davey had another great game (as he tends to do), rushing for 236 yards and five touchdowns while picking up 10.3 yards per carry. He was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 64 yards.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Sacred Heart was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 393 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, East Marion fought the good fight in their overtime game against Jefferson Davis County on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 28-22 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Jaguars.
Sacred Heart will have to contain Jabarrus Jefferson as he made an impact in East Marion's last game. He rushed for 93 yards and one score on only six carries. Jaquez Hathorn helped out on the ground, rushing for 94 yards.
East Marion's defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 2-3. As for Sacred Heart, their win bumped their record up to 4-1.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Sacred Heart has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 208.4 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like East Marion struggles in that department as they've been averaging 148.8 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Sacred Heart and East Marion were neck-and-neck in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, but Sacred Heart came up empty-handed after an 8-7 loss.
