Basketball Recap: Enyekeme Marcus' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Columbus over Sumter County

If Columbus was riding high fresh off their 60-31 takedown of Hardaway last Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Columbus Blue Devils took a 47-42 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Sumter County Panthers. The Blue Devils haven't had much luck with the Panthers recently, as the team's come up short the last eight times they've met.

Several Blue Devils players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Enyekeme Marcus, who posted 13 points and seven rebounds. Those seven boards gave Marcus a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Smith Carver, who had nine points and five rebounds.

Even though they lost, Columbus smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've managed all season.

Columbus' loss dropped their record down to 9-12. As for Sumter County, the win got them back to even at 9-9.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Columbus will square off against Jordan at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Sumter County, they won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Kendrick at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
