Baseball Recap: St. Peter's Prep Takes a Loss

St. Peter's Prep has relied on a stalwart pitchers averaging four runs allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Wednesday. They fell 13-10 to the Union City Soaring Eagles. Surprisingly, this marked the fifth straight game that the away team has come away the victor.

St. Peter's Prep got a good showing from Hudson Giddens, who pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off five hits. Giddens has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, David Tallarida stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: he scored a run while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Andrew Breihof, who scored two runs while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.

St. Peter's Prep's loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 5-1 and their overall record down to 7-4. As for Union City, their victory was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-2.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. St. Peter's Prep will challenge rival Memorial at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Marauders 4, the Tigers 3.7) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Union City is set to square off against their familiar foe Hudson Catholic at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
